As oestrogen levels decline through perimenopause and menopause, the health, elasticity and natural lubrication of vaginal tissues can be affected. This can impact genital, urinary and sexual health, with some of the most common symptoms being vaginal dryness, burning and discomfort.

Although these symptoms are common that doesn’t mean you have to just put up with them or accept them as inevitable.

What is Hyaluxelle?

Purified hyaluronic acid with NAHYCO® Hybrid technology. This injectable treatment is designed to provide long-lasting comfort and relief from vaginal symptoms associated with menopause. No daily creams or messy applications.

Improves vaginal moisture

Works at a cellular level to improve hydration and achieve long-lasting comfort that can improve your quality of life.

Non-hormonal treatment

Can be used alongside or instead of HRT. Suitable for women who cannot use oestrogen-based treatments.

Reduces pain during sex

Shown to improve sexual function, based on the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI).

Improves tissue structure

Encourages elastic and collagen production, and supports natural regeneration of the skin and mucosa. Shown to be effective for effective in vulvar-vaginal atrophy.

Hyaluxelle® is a non-hormonal, hyaluronic-acid based long-lasting injectable treatment for vaginal dryness that restores hydration and comfort without the need for daily creams. It can be particularly helpful if you have tried moisturisers and creams but are still uncomfortable.

Hyaluxelle® uses purified hyaluronic acid with NAHYCO® Hybrid technology to restore moisture and elasticity to the vulva and vaginal area to restore comfort from vaginal symptoms that are common during menopause. As a non-hormonal treatment, it is especially beneficial for women who can’t or prefer not to use oestrogen.

Yes, Hyaluxelle® is hormone-free, making it a great option for women who prefer not to use hormonal treatments, or for women who are unable to use hormonal treatments.

Hyaluxelle® may be suitable for you if you:

  • Experience vaginal dryness or discomfort associated with menopause
  • Have discomfort during sexual intercourse
  • Prefer a non-hormonal treatment option or are unable to use oestrogen-based treatment
  • Experience symptoms despite using vaginal moisturisers or lubricants

Hyaluxelle® may not be suitable for everyone. Before treatment, you’ll have a consultation with one of our consultant gynaecologists to carefully assess your symptoms, medical history, and discuss the available treatment options, to determine whether this treatment is appropriate for your individual circumstances.

These may include lifestyle advice, vaginal moisturisers, local oestrogen therapy, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), non-hormonal treatments such as Hyaluxelle®, or a combination of these.

Yes, you can have Hyaluxelle® in conjunction with HRT. This is because Hyaluxelle® is non-hormonal treatment and as such will not interact with HRT. Indeed, it can be used to complement HRT.

You’ll have a consultation with one of our consultants who will consider your symptoms, medical history and preferences. If you are deemed suitable for Hyaluxelle® this can be performed as an outpatient procedure. It takes around 20-30 minutes. The procedure involves application of a local anaesthetic cream to the entrance of the vagina 1 hour before the procedure. Once the area is numb, Hyaluxelle® is carefully injected into the area around the vaginal orifice. This part of the procedure takes between 5-10 minutes. Your consultant will explain each step.

You can expect little to no discomfort wit this procedure. We apply local anaesthetic cream to the entrance of the vagina one hour before the procedure, which helps to relieve any pain from the injection.

As with any medical procedure, results vary between individuals. Research on Hyaluxelle® shows significant improvements in sexual function and genital symptoms.

How long do the results of Hyaluxelle® last? Research shows that one year after treatment, the Global FSFI score of women vulvar-vaginal atrophy who received treatment increased by 58%.

Hyaluxelle® contains no hormones so it is a completely different treatment type for other hormone-based treatments for vaginal dryness (but no less effective!).

Yes, most women will find their body does not produce as much vaginal lubrication after menopause compared to before. This is a result of lack of oestrogen in the body.

Vaginal dryness, also referred to as vaginal atrophy, does not improve after menopause without intervention. This is because the oestrogen levels remain low once a woman has reached menopause. Some women use vaginal moisturisers or choose to go on HRT which can help. Other women prefer not to or are unable to have oestrogen-based treatments, which is when non-hormonal treatments like Hyaluxelle® can be really beneficial.

Symptoms of GSM during menopause include:

  • Vaginal dryness
  • Burning or irritation
  • Pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse
  • Reduced natural lubrication
  • Vaginal sensitivity or discomfort
  • Urinary symptoms such as urgency or recurrent urinary infections
