Abnormal
Smears![]() Pap smears, Colposcopy, Biopsy, loop diathermy ( LLETZ) It is well accepted now that all women should have a smear test from the cervix every 3 years. A regular cervical smear allows detection and treatment of abnormal cells early before it turns into cancer. Although this may
take years to develop the findings of abnormal smears usually At the Gynae centre we are able to offer detailed examination of the cervix. Colposcopy allows magnification of the lining of the cervix and guides the examiner to the site and type of abnormality. Biopsy from the cervix can be taken immediately with little discomfort and sent to the laboratory for accurate dignosis. If
the biopsy confirms any pre cancerous abnormality, this can be treated
at the centre with the help of loop excision under local anaesthesia with
little discomfort. Most women are able to go back and resume their normal
activity the following day. |
